Susan Dixon, MSW

susan dixon, play therapy, lake nona, kids counseling, behavioral therapy,

Children are a gift but that doesn’t mean parenting is easy. Looking for therapy options for your child means you are about to entrust them to someone else, hoping to see them flourish and maybe bring that smile back. My goal is to work side by side with parents so you feel like an integral part of the therapy process. My hope is to help you connect and understand each other better, and eventually work my way out of a job.

I offer services for children 3 – 15 years old who are having difficulty adjusting to a new thing, have experienced loss, depression, anxiety, ADHD, bullying, or behavioral issues. I have extensive training and experience with autistic children, selective mutism, and OCD as well as early childhood development. The modalities most commonly used are CBT, DBT, Sand tray, Art, Play therapy, and Motivational Interviewing and we will adapt based on the needs of your child.

I provide a safe, fun, comfortable and nonjudgemental space so children feel free to explore and process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Our spaces are tailored for sensory seeking and neurodivergent children and we have session spaces tailored for younger and more active children as well as spaces that feel more suited for preteens and teenagers. Our aim is to help you and your child feel at home and accepted in this space, because that is when growth can truly happen.

As a first generation Colombian American, I communicate fluently with families in English and Spanish. I am also mom to a blended family and a military spouse, so I have personal understanding of the unique struggles these families face. Our session hours are Tue-Fri, with occasional Saturdays as well. We have immediate availability and we are here to serve your needs. Call us today!

What Parents are Saying

We are incredibly grateful the support our son has received over the past 7 months. The growth and positive changes in his confidence, emotional awareness, and communication have truly been remarkable. Thank you for creating a safe, caring space and for making such a meaningful difference in his life. We are so thankful that we found you when we were going through difficult times.
- Parent of a 12 year old boy
Susan was incredible at engaging with our child. She got to know him and had great ideas of how to relate to him. He absolutely loved the sessions. It was impressive to see that while the approach was friendly, he understood that he was there to learn something and there were certain rules that he had to be mindful of and that he had to give up some control. The therapy made him way more aware of discipline, emotions, and boundaries. His anxiety and uncontrolled emotions have practically vanished.
- Parent of a 5 year old boy
Mrs. Susan Dixon genuinely cared about the well being of our child. She gave us insights into why he behaved the way he did and showed us ways to help him that we didn't think of. Our child looked forward to his therapy days and said Mrs. Dixon was nice. I would definitely have my child see Mrs. Dixon in the future if the need arises.
- Parent of an 11 year old boy
Our son's therapist is truly exceptional. Ms. Dixon consistently demonstrates a high level of professionalism and an incredibly caring approach. Her guidance during a challenging situation with our child was invaluable, providing us with clear, effective strategies that made a real difference. We're so grateful for her expertise and dedication.
- Parent of a 9 year old boy
Susan is a fantastic professional and human being. We would not be able to navigate grief, ADHD, and teenage phase without her help and support. If you are looking for a professional that loves what she does, has experience, and will always be there for you and your kid, she is the right choice!
- Parent of a 13 year old girl
Susan is fun and supportive, and very easy to contact. I appreciated her helping me work through concerns I had with my child. Helping a medically complex child who also has significant mental health concerns can be a challenge, and it is nice to have someone there to help you who understands. We have very much appreciated Susan working with our son for the last couple years.
